Unity Opto sees May revenues decrease
Julian Ho, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Monday 9 June 2014]
LED packaging service provider Unity Opto Technology had consolidated revenues of NT$618 million (US$20.5 million) for May decreasing 22.85% on month and 12.75% on year, and NT$3.333 billion for January-May increasing 4.22% on year.
As vendors adopted WCG (wide color gamut) LED backlighting for smartphones and tablets in the first half of 2014 and will do so for large-size LCD TVs in the second half, Unity Opto said it expects orders for WCG LED backlight units to begin to increase in the third quarter.
Unity Opto has invested NT$1.23 billion to extend production capacity from LED packaging, with monthly capacity to increase from one million LED light bulbs, tubes and lamps to over three million, the company indicated. Revenue proportion for LED lighting will begin to exceed 30% in the third quarter, Unity Opto said.
